Designed for simple installation, often very near the source of a potential fire, Fire trace system is a self-activating suppression system that reliably suppresses fires in seconds. Fire trace system is a low maintenance, cost-effective solution to the problem of "micro-environment" fire protection.

Micro-environments are applications where the hazard is typically contained within a critical enclosure, such as equipment, machines, vehicles, or storage compartments. Fire trace systems can be installed in virtually any enclosed space where high-value assets are located or where an increased risk of fire could be mitigated by an automatic fire suppression system.

Fire trace systems are compatible with most commercially available fire suppression agents, including "clean" extinguishing agents such as FM-200 or Novec 1230 fire protection fluid, as well as CO2, dry chemical powder, foam, and water.

  • Because of minimum operating pressure of 10 bar at nozzles, droplet size, arising from atomization of FM-200, are smaller resulting in complete vaporization before it can collide with any object. It also allows rooms to be flooded up to a height of five meters, a special advantage over conventional low-pressure systems, which are usually limited to room heights of less than four meters.
  • Maximum filling ration can be realized by comparison with conventional low pressure system and so optimizes the ratio of hardware required to each kilogram of FM-200.
  • Smaller diameter of piping network can be used thus reducing installation cost.
  • More than one room in a building can be protected by providing a common cylinder battery (Central Bank) and sector/directional valve. The capacity of the cylinder battery shall be calculated for the protection of the largest room and/or adjoining rooms, which may be evaluated to be involved in a fire simultaneously. Fire Trace System direction valve systems, in most cases reduce the cost involved compared to the cost for individual systems protecting the same hazards.

Fire Extinguishing Agent
In response to the impending production phase-out of Halon fire extinguish ants, Cease Fire & Electrical Services LLP offers Fire Trace System as a replacement for Halon 1301 in applications requiring a clean, environmentally acceptable fire extinguishing agent, suitable for use in manned areas. It is a colorless gas at standard conditions, exhibiting a boiling point of -16.4°C. Through the use of properly designed equipment, FM-200 will mix well in a protected enclosure to provide a homogeneous mixture in air.

How Fire Trace System works
In order for a fire to be sustained, the three components fuel, oxygen and heat, must be present in sufficient quantities, and at sufficient levels. If one of the three elements is removed the fire will be suppressed. Fire Trace Systems works by physical action, the molecules absorb heat so that the temperature of the flame falls to a point below which it cannot propagate, and the fire is extinguished. The oxygen depleting effect is minimal as only small quantities of the gas are used.

Extinguishing power

Rapid fire knockdown within ten seconds
The system will protect at low concentrations of extinguishant, between 7 and 9%, a design which ensures a rapid fire knockdown essential for personnel and property protection. This low concentration also means that over pressurization of rooms and enclosures is restricted, an important feature sometimes overlooked. These systems are equally suitable for flammable mixtures of fuel found in, for example, marine engine compartments or for electrically sensitive equipment in communication technology.

Safe in manned areas
In determining a safe exposure level to any agent intended for use in occupied spaces, the potential of the agent to cause cardiac sensitization should be determined. Fire trace system has been evaluated for this condition via test protocols approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency, and has been cleared for use in occupied areas at the normal design concentration. Fire trace system has a low toxicity rating and is classified as: Safe for automatic operation in areas where staff are at work and that it has No observed adverse effect on humans at concentration of 9%(Systems are designed for lower concentrations than 9%) Additionally, because the system assures rapid knockdown, inhalation of fumes from the burning materials causing the fire are minimized and smoke build up restricted.

Environmentally safe

Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP)
As the concerns over stratospheric ozone protection have developed in recent years, it is clearly understood that any agent that is expected to be available for use in the market on a long term basis would have to offer zero ODP. In the past, certain gases such as Halon 1301 were utilised in systems until it was realised that they could deplete the ozone layer. Since Fire Trace System contains no chlorine or bromine and does not possess the properties associated with the compounds thought to damage stratospheric ozone it has an ozone depletion potential of zero.

Global Warming Potential

Biodegradability of chemical compounds in the environment is also a paramount concern. Long-lived compounds are thought to pose greater risks of contributing to global warming. Determination of the atmospheric lifetime of Fire Trace System, indicates a lifetime of only 31 to 42 years. This lifetime has been considered as acceptable for fire extinguishing compounds by the US Environmental Protection Agency's Significant New Applications Programme (SNAP).
